Family & Friends
Felton Angus is a family operation raising registered Angus since 1952. We are located in Springdale and Miles City, Montana. Richard and Maurice Felton, who are sons of founder Raymond Felton, live on the Miles City ranch. Richard's son Jim lives on the Springdale ranch.
Our Felton roots are deep in Montana. Felton Angus Ranch began in the 1950's with Raymond's purchase of 3-4 head of Angus cattle. At the time, the family was living in western Montana and milking a grade A Jersey herd. Sons Richard and Maurice made it clear that milking cows was not for them, so the family focused on beef cattle and the herd grew. It wasn't long before Angus cattle were the mainstay of the operation. In the early 1970's the family moved east, the herd continued to grow and the first Felton Angus Ranch bull sale was held at the Springdale ranch in 1973. Today, the family operates both the Sprindale and Miles City ranches. Richard & Karol Felton and Maurice & Kathy Felton run the Miles City ranch. Richard's son Jim farms and ranches with the family in Springdale. The bulls continue to be fed and sold at the Springdale ranch.
Our family continues to grow. The Richard & Karol Felton clan includes three children and three grandchildren. Daughter Bobi Jo is married to Scott Boeh they have one son, Layne. Daughter Kelly is married to Ben (Buck) Hursh and they have two children, Grant and Greta. Son Jim and his wife Susie were married this fall and live on the Springdale ranch. Maurice and Kathy Felton have one son, Bill. This fall we traveled to Lake Tahoe for Jim & Susie's wedding.
Farm
Even though Angus cattle are our specialty, we also do some farming to supply feed for the bulls and the mother cows. Crops that are raised include alfalfa, corn for silage and for grain and small grains for forage and grain. Hay fields are rotated out of alfalfa for two years and crops like corn and triticale/pea mixes are grown. After two years the fields are then seeded back to either alfalfa or a alfalfa grass mix. The crops are all irrigated as this area is too arid to raise these crops under a dryland situation.
